The Grey King

I actually re-read the whole The Dark Is Rising Sequence, not just the Grey King. I first read these books when I was in the 5th grade and I continue to love them now as I did then. I love the conflict between good and evil, and I am always a sucker for all things Arthurian. I admire the blind faith the Drew kids have in their great uncle Merry and Will despite not understanding all there is to know. This is a great fantasy series, to be enjoyed by both the young and old.

Life of Pi

One down, nine to go!

The Life of Pi was a strange book for me. It was very slow to start, but I am glad I stuck with it. The ending more than made up for the slowness at the beginning. If recommending the book to someone, I would tell them if they keep reading until he is on the boat, they will be glad they stuck it out. This is one of those books that sticks with you awhile after you have read it. At the very least it should make you say " hmmmm...?".

My First Challenge

So I am ready to start my first reading challenge. The Book Awards Reading Challenge II. Read 10 award winning books in 10 months. Award winning books must be from at least 5 different awards.

1. The Life of Pi (2002 Booker Award)
2. The Grey King (1976 Newberry Award)
3. A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier ( 2008 Alex Award)
4. No Good Deeds (2007 Anthony)
5. The Corrections ( 2001 National Book Award)
6. Bridge to Terabithia (1978 Newberry Award)
7. We Need to Talk About Kevin ( 2005 Orange Prize)
8. Half of a Yellow Sun (2007 Orange Prize)
9. Sophie's Choice (1980 National Book Award)
10. My Sister's Keeper (2005 Alex Award)

Today I lose my blogging virginity

First time for everything, right? I was purusing some of the other book blogs today, and decided I would give this a shot. If nothing else, it will help me keep track of the books I have read and what I thought about them. I also want to try a couple of the challenges!

Stay tuned while I figure this out.
